What should I do?
This week specifically, I had a tough time coming up with a good 45 second commercial. After a conversation with my dad, this is what I came up with:
Good morning everyone! I’m Nathan Mueller with Mueller Landscape, your landscape maintenance and construction specialists.
So last night after my parents and I had gotten home from our family business, I was sitting at home trying to figure out what I wanted to do for my 45 second commercial.
I asked my dad, “What should I do?”
And he said… “Get me a beer.”
Not exactly what I was expecting… but then I thought about it… And it was perfect!
You see, ever since he started the business in 1982, he’s been straight up with people. He tells it how it is, and he makes it clear as to what has to be done and how it has to be done, and he makes sure it gets done.
My ask is to simply keep an open eye and listening ear for anyone who may have previously hired a gardener or landscape contractor, and didn’t get what they expected. Have them call us for a free estimate to get the job done, the way it’s supposed to be done.
Thank you, I’m Nathan Mueller, and from Mueller Landscape to you, we do the work you don’t want to do.
My first 8 minute presentation
Every week during my networking meetings, 2 members get to spend 8 minutes each talking about their businesses instead of only 45 seconds. This week, I was one of those members, so here’s what I came up with:
_____________________________________
Hello everyone! I’m Nathan Mueller with Mueller Landscape, your landscape maintenance and construction specialists.
If everyone could please pass their “reasons why someone might need a gardener” this way, that would be great.
Today, I want to touch on a few specific things… Starting with the history of Mueller Landscape, Second Edition, Version 2.1, written and illustrated by… well… ME.
Really though, I’m actually just going to read an excerpt to you from our website about our history in the landscaping industry, and please save all applause for the end.
“We at Mueller Landscape Inc. are a local family owned landscape, lawn and garden maintenance company that have been serving San Diego County since 1982. We are licensed by the State of CA, C27-862489, and we are dedicated to providing reliable landscape maintenance services to residential homeowners, property management companies and commercial properties.
Started by John Mueller in 1982, he’s my dad, Mueller Landscape Inc. has grown to over 500 weekly and biweekly maintenance customers. He began by working in the field, and doing everything he could to pick up more business. Through his many years of experience, John Mueller became a professional in the landscaping industry. With a focus in residential landscaping, John Mueller is well known throughout San Diego among his peers.
My mom, Laura Mueller, joined him full time during the spring of 2008. While many businesses failed due to the economy, Mueller Landscape Inc. bloomed (anyone catch that pun?), by staying committed to their excellent customer service and delivering only the best quality gardening. As it grew, customers demanded even more from their gardening services, and in late 2011, we added a separate aeration division.
In 2013, I joined the scene, and we quickly became a multi-billion dollar global company… Well not really, but I did take over the aeration division and began to focus on social media and our online presence. After creating a new website and revamping our social media efforts, we have become even more focused on our customer communication.
Today, we are one of the most well-known landscaping companies in San Diego. As landscape professionals, we continue to grow by giving the best overall experience through delivering the highest quality work and the best customer service.”
Now that you all know a little bit more about who we are, I’d like to go over some reasons why we’re the best landscaping company for all of your landscaping needs.
One of the number one complaints we get from new customers about their previous gardeners is that they don’t show up when they say they will, and they lack good communication.
We, however, offer
- Consistent Scheduling – every customer has a set day that their service is done, whether it’s weekly or every other week
- Friendly Faces – We do our best to have the same crews do the same jobs, but even if they miss a week, every job has notes that the crews refer to every visit.
- Commitment to Answer The Phones – We always do our best to answer the phones, and if we don’t, we’re sure to call you back as soon as we can
- English Speaking Crews – All of our crews speak English
- Accurate Next Day Card Billing – With our billing system, you never have to worry about sending in a check
- And Our 5 Minute Sign Up Process By Phone – We can quote most properties over the phone using google maps, and can have you set up and ready to go in one simple phone call.
Now before I continue, I want to ask a question…
Who loves Costco?
Most people do, but why? Well it’s simple… Rather than having to go to the grocery store, clothing store, electronic store, furniture store, and home and garden store for a variety of things, people can just go to Costco and get everything they need at a great price.
Now I know we’re not quite Costco, but in terms of the landscaping industry… we’re pretty close. We have maintenance crews, tree crews, irrigation techs, an aeration division, a landscape installation and construction division, and an office staff that helps put everything together.
We offer:
- Landscape and Lawn Maintenance
- Lawn Fertilization
- Lawn Aeration
- Lawn Treatment Programs
- Gopher Treatment
- Tree Services
- Landscape Installation and Construction
- Irrigation Service and Repair
And all at great prices too.
My ask is that everyone try out our service at least once if they can, and I’ll even make it easy. After the meeting, just come talk to me and I can give you a quote and sign you up TODAY.
Even if you don’t use us regularly, at least you’ll have a much better idea of who we are and what we can do for you and anyone you know.
Now for our drawing… and the winner is… **READ IT** written by **NAME**
If you’d like to read some of the other ones up here, feel free to see me after the meeting and we can look at them.
Thank you, I’m Nathan Mueller, and from Mueller Landscape to you, we do the work you don’t want to do.
Reasons why you might need a gardener
I tried to have a little fun this week with my 45 Second Commercial. Here it is:
Good morning everyone! I’m Nathan Mueller with Mueller Landscape.
Today, I want to go over some of the signs… that someone might need a gardener… with a Jeff Foxworthy twist.
If you think… that watering your lawn with the hose a couple of times per week will keep it green… you might need a gardener.
If you think!…. that it’s ok… to mow your lawn on the shortest setting in the middle the summer, so you don’t have to mow as often… you might need a gardener.
If you think!!!….. that lettin’ your dogs and other animals do their business on the lawn, will fertilize the lawn… you might need a gardener.
My ask this week is simple: Come up with your own Jeff Foxworthy style reason why someone might need a gardener, and bring it to next week’s meeting. During my 8 minute presentation, I will do a quick raffle for a starbucks giftcard for everyone who does so, and it will be separate from my door prize.
Thank you, I’m Nathan Mueller, and from Mueller Landscape to you, we do the work you don’t want to do.
Len Street in Santee
Here’s another 45 Second Commercial:
Good morning everyone! I’m Nathan Mueller with Mueller Landscape, your landscape maintenance and construction specialists.
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve shared a few different fun stories.
Today, I want to re-emphasize the point of these stories:
Number 1: Many home-owners do their landscaping on the weekend, but therefore give up their free time to relax and enjoy life outside of typical work days. We can fix that. We’re a professional landscaping company with over 500 residential customers. We’ll do our best to make sure your yard looks its very best.
I also have a very specific ask for today: If any of you know someone who lives on Len Street in Santee, that’s “L” “E” “N” Len Street in Santee. We will take care of their front and back yard for only $37.50/visit, so send them our way.
Thank you, I’m Nathan Mueller, and from Mueller Landscape to you, we do the work you don’t want to do.
Jack and Jill
Here’s the first 45 second commercial I did for Mueller Landscape:
Good morning everyone! I’m Nathan Mueller with Mueller Landscape, your landscape maintenance and construction specialists.
Today, I want to tell a story.
Jack and Jill
Lived on a hill
With their one and only daughter.
Their lawn turned brown,
So Jack went into town,
And the gardener came by after.
Now they had a neighbor,
Who hated labor,
And never mowed his lawn.
When Sunday came,
Jack watched the big game,
But he was stuck working ‘til dawn.
So be smart like Jack,
And get your weekends back.
Don’t be like the neighbor.
Give us a call,
Tell your friends and all!
We’ll do all the labor.
Thank you, I’m Nathan Mueller, and from Mueller Landscape to you, we do the work you don’t want to do.
What is a 45 second commercial?
Every week, I attend a networking meeting, where all of the members sit down for breakfast and share information about our businesses, with the intent of giving and receiving referrals.
The trick is that we only get 45 seconds every week to talk in front of the group. The basic outline they give for a good commercial is to talk about something specific, and then proceed with a specific ask, an ask being a specific name of someone that we would like an introduction to, with the hope that someone in the group will know the name.
My approach is a little different. I like to try and be more creative with the intention of being remembered. People don’t always remember information about businesses when they hear it from over 30 different businesses in less than 30 minutes.
I also like to prepare. Every week before my meeting. I figure out what I want to say, how I want to say it, and then I type up my commercial.
Because I always have them typed up, I decided it’d be a good idea to share them on my blog. Each one will be posted as a separate post under the 45 Second Commercials category.
Please leave any comments you have for each one. I always appreciate any feedback! Feel free to also comment on here with any fun and creative ideas you have for a good 45 second commercial 🙂
